Man of La Mancha
I'm going to start posting blurbs about the movies I've been watching. Mostly as a record of what I have seen. This is an interesting place to start.
Peter and Sophie are great in this musical, and so are the other actors, many recognizable from films made in this era. I'm not huge on musicals, but I really like the story of Don Quixote. The story is analogous to many things and many have discussed it place in the modern cultural tapestry of Spain. The most poignant aspect of the story to me is the creation and manipulation of reality for selfish and selfless reasons. Perhaps DQ is mad, but who cares if he's happy and not hurting anyone. He is what he and those around him believe he is and that's all that matters.
In the book El Donza is a farm girl instead of a whore, which raises all the usual suspicions of Hollywood's misogynist business practices.
It's hard to imagine watching O'Toole in any performance and not come away conscious of the gift and finality of life. He is perfect as Don Quixote.
couldn't find a trailer, here's him singing, the impossible dream.

back in business
Well I think I recovered about 95% of my music which isn't bad. Playing now is a playlist that includes a lot of recordings from live concerts and some other interesting stuff. The good news is that I will receive a new drive from Seagate to replace the busted one. Now I will have 4TB to play with. I guess its time to get something a little more robust in case this happens again. some kind of inexpensive home raid setup. Well I hope you enjoy all the live music in the list right now. arrivederci
oh here's the Pixies with Wild Honey Pie, a Beatles cover.

Portishead 1995 04 03
Have you been to www.beatbird.com? It's great. Not the greatest search interface but it gets the job done. I've been searching by artist, year and live sets. You can spend a lot of time scrolling through. I found this one I'm gonna start it from the beginning on the stream, tune in. You can get your own copy from the link below.
